About Cathedraltown
Cathedraltown covers about 225 acres of what was Stephen B. Roman's Romandale Farms. In the early 2000s it was planned by Helen Roman-Barber with architect Donald Buttress, Surveyor of the Fabric Emeritus at Westminster Abbey, as a community modelled on European cathedral towns.
Its centrepiece is the Cathedral of the Transfiguration, whose gilded tower rises about 64 metres and can be seen from Highway 404. Pope John Paul II blessed the cathedral in September 1984, during his visit to Canada.
Homes in Cathedraltown
Cathedraltown is denser than many Markham neighbourhoods. Streets of townhouses and detached homes surround the cathedral, and low-rise condo buildings such as The Courtyards at Cathedraltown sit near the centre. Further phases, including a public piazza, are planned.
