About Berczy Village

Berczy Village is named after William Berczy, who led a group of German settlers to Markham in 1794 and is considered the township's founder. An Ontario Heritage Trust plaque near Kennedy Road and 16th Avenue marks the history.

The neighbourhood was built on former farmland, including the Bagg family's farm, beginning in the mid-1990s. It followed Markham's planning approach of keeping woodlots and open space, which is why so many streets back onto green space.
